About Me
Serving US Service Members, Veterans, their Family Members and Supporters
I am Dr. Claudia McCausland - the person behind Psychological Pathways. I am a Clinical Psychologist trained in the US and based in Baumholder, Germany. I am a licensed Psychotherapist in the US and in Germany - here to guide you through life’s most complex and difficult matters. I care about my patients’ well-being and provide top of the line psychotherapy services catered to their needs. I provide a number of specialized therapeutic services to those dealing with challenging life experiences. Patient well-being is my number one priority, and I go above and beyond to help my patients through all their obstacles.
A bit about my professional background
What Makes Me Stand Out
When it comes to your health and overall well-being, it’s important to have a knowledgeable professional you can turn to.  My expertise allows me to treat a broad spectrum of mental health conditions and my chosen clientele has been military professionals and the people who support them.
Training and Employment
* Veterans Affairs Medical Centers
For internship and post-doctoral fellowship, I trained at two different Veterans Affairs Medical Centers (VAMC)- in Little Rock, AR and Memphis, TN. After completion of my doctoral degree, I worked at the Memphis VAMC- first as a Behavioral Health (BH) Consultant in Primary Care and then as Clinical Psychologist and the Program Director of the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (PTSD-RRTP).
Further Employment
* Department of Defense, Army
In 2016, I returned to Germany to work as a BH Provider in the United States Army Health Clinic in Baumholder, Germany. My duties entailed the full spectrum of mental health (MH) services including MH evaluations for security clearance and advanced training for soldiers. I also served as the BH Clinic Training Director and routinely served as the Acting Chief of the Baumholder BH Clinic.
* Primary Care Clinic
After completion of my tour with the Baumholder BH Clinic and receiving the Approbation (full license to practice in Germany), I continued providing MH services to the American Military Community at a private Primary Care Clinic in Landstuhl, Germany.

Private Practice
And finally, I decided to return to Baumholder to provide needed MH services in this community. As a former local national employee of the US Army turned Clinical Psychologist, it has always been a matter of the heart for me to assist active and retired Military Personnel, their Loved Ones and their Supporters in all matters of psychological well-being, especially those that are unique to this population.

FAQs
You Ask - I Answer
Choosing an effective Psychotherapist is like choosing a life partner - chemistry and trust are an essential combination in a successful relationship. Got questions? I’ve got answers! I go above and beyond to act as a safety net for my clients, and strive to make their experience as pleasant as possible. Take a look at some answers to the most frequently asked psychology-related questions and requests below.
How long are therapy sessions and what do they entail?
Therapy sessions are typically 55 minutes long. Our initial sessions will focus on getting to know each other and discuss your concerns, experiences and expectations. After we have decided that we are compatible and want to work together, we will develop and then implement a recovery treatment plan that suits your needs and builds on your strengths.
How many sessions will I need?

Well . . . that depends. I will consider various factors such as the complexity and severity of your presenting concern(s), your motivation, your strengths, matching your needs to specific evidence based therapy approaches, any time constraints and so on. Ultimately, I will strive to keep therapy as brief as possible without compromising quality!
What services do you offer?
My services are focused primarily on in-person adult psychotherapy for a broad range of MH conditions and life challenges that include depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, stress, anger management, personality disorders, adjustment difficulties, trauma, grief, insomnia, chronic pain, and relationship distress. I also conduct pre-surgical psychological assessments of bariatric surgery candidates. At this time, I do not offer psychological testing or telehealth. However, this may change in the future. Stay tuned.
Payment for service
Psychotherapy is an investment in yourself, your health, and your future. I settle my fee at the time of service directly with my clients who in turn seek reimbursement from their health insurance company. However, for TRICARE patients, I settle the bill directly with TRICARE. I encourage all of my clients to check with and get pre-approved by their insurance company for coverage of psychological services and related reimbursement before they start therapy with me. I am happy to assist you if you need help with this process.
I love helping my clients develop the tools they need to cope with all of life’s challenges.
Are you ready to take a step toward a happier, healthier you?
